What kind of Iraqi AK47 underfolder is this?

Question: I'm in Iraq. I work with an Iraqi unit in Talafar and have access to many AK variants. I currently use a an airborne variant from the turret of my tank because it's shorter than my M-4 which I use when dismounted. The AK I have is great in narrow streets when I can't elevate my 50 to cover rooftops.
I want to know where it's made. I get 3 different answers from 3 different iraqis. It has markings AT 3413 1988 and has a wood grip forward of the reciever and a plastic pistol grip. The folding stock folds forward unlike the russian variants which I think fold to the side.
Thanks for your help.

Answer: Well there are a few countries that make the undewrfolder like you describe. I got a team of guys who live to ID AK47 rifles and parts, send us some pictures if you can and I'd bet they can tell you the country, factory and if we're lucky they'll know WHEN it was made too.
I'm the bayonet freak of the bunch so if you have one for it include a pic of it too.
Thanks for your service over there, we're happy our site is of some value to you guys who can really use it. |

Look at the selector lever. If it says S A R. then it is Romanian. If it says C P, then it is Polish, Infinity symbol then 1, it is Hungarian.
Russian and Bulgarian are marked with (2) cyrillic characters. East German is marked D E. From: W. Larson |

| Based on the guns that I have in my armory and what you are describing I am going to say it is a Romanian AK47. The serial number(s) match the same format and the 1988 indicates the year of manufacture. Many Polish, Hungarian and East German have two-letters and then numbers. Chinese Type 56-1's have digits the ones I see here in Iraq are 6-8 digits long. Russian and Bulgarian guns have cyrillic markins near the selector lever. Yugo guns which can be M70, M70AB or AB2 rifles are most always marked Zastava on the trunnion and U R J on the selector lever side. From: W K L |
