AK47 Dood's Review:
Blade is classic clip point (Bowie style) with slot for use as a wire cutter. Blade also has a clinometer etched on one side and a linear scale etched on the other side. Handle is black resin with palm swell and finger grooves and a squared off metal butt cap which unscrews to reveal a compartment containing a small stash of survival items. The butt cap has a whole for a wrist strap which is basically a length of black paracord. The scabbard is black resin with wire cutter attachment. The hanger is riveted to the scabbard and is made of grey Nylon web. It has a black leather strap and black steel loop closure for the belt loop that allows the loop to be opened up to reveal a signaling mirror. The strap that goes around the handle is also gray Nylon web and closes with Velcro. There were only about 2500 of these made before the fall of the wall. AK47
Manufacturer Description:
East German KM 87 Bayonet - one of the rarest issued AK bayonets is the East german Kampfmesser (KM) 87 - This bayonet was developed in 1987 for use with the East German MPiAK74 . There were only 2000 of these bayonets produced before the "fall of the wall" and the collapse of East germany. These were designed as a survival knife as well as a bayonet. The pommel unscrews and reveals a small plastic capsule - inside capsule is one each 3mm, 4mm, 4.5 mm and 5 mm diameter split lead shot weights, two 10 mm long fish hooks, two 15 mm long fish hooks, two red over green flare matches, one green over red tip flare match, three iodine water purification tablets, two 40 mm long straight sewing needles and one sterile suture kit. The lid of the capsule contains a plastic magnifying lens and under a round leather plug in pommel there is monofilament fishing line. The blade itself has a protractor on one side and 5 cm scale on the other. The belt loop contains a piece of polished steel signaling mirror. It also comes with a small instruction booklet.
